Fear Laziness

Sunday, December 12, 2010 by Dan Miller Leave a Comment

Have you noticed that during the Christmas Season it is common to hear people sing openly about Jesus as “King” or the “Reign of God” in seasonal songs?  Carols with lyrics like “Let earth receive her King” (Joy to the World) or “Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth” (Silent Night).  It is at this time of year that you see a strange disconnect between how people really live and what they sing. People in our society lazily enjoy the melody of a song while giving no thought to the meaning of the lyrics. What could be the possible reason for this glaring inconsistency?

There are some people who would call this inconsistency simply tradition, a way of acting during a season of the year. However, I think it is more appropriate to see it as a result of apathy, of being spiritually lazy. Admittedly, I find myself humming tunes that have become just songs of the season when they should be anthems in my life.

Jesus is concerned that His disciples do not get lazy.  Today, we will see examine what Jesus thinks about the focus of His followers and why we need to fear becoming lazy. We are glad you are here today.MP3 download.
