My 3 hour flight delay with Catherine

Saturday, May 21, 2005 by Kevin Schultz 15 Comments

Due to thunderstorms in Atlanta last night, my return flight home was delayed a total of 3 hours. Most of you are groaning at this point. Flight delays can be a pain. But I will tell you a cool thing happened. I got to talking with the young lady sitting next to me. She was on her way to Myrtle Beach via Atlanta to do makeup for a photo shoot (for all the ladies, see recommends MAC cosmetics).

We chatted a bit about various things, including cell phone rules on domestic flights and the in flight XM radio service. Anyhow, as we finally took off, the conversation naturally ended and she peered out the window. So I got out my Don’t Waste Your Life book by John Piper. Here I was reading about how we can’t make people glad in God, but through His grace we can offer them the means of that gladness, that is the Gospel. I finished the chapter and put the book down and we started chatting again. Through God’s own mysterious ways we started talking about work and kids and stuff, finally landing a discussion of faith and differences in how people view the church the north vs. the south. We talked about the distinctions between Roman Catholics and Protestants. I was a great conversation.

In the terminal, I handed her my business card with our blog URL on the back and told her I would be writing about the experience of the day. That seemed interesting to her so I invited her to check it out.

So Catherine, if you made out here to read my blog, please leave me a comment so I know you came by. Check out my friends blogs too on this site. There is a lot to think about when it comes to faith in the one true God.

Kevin, For all of us ladies that use cosmetics…Please explain what are MAC cosmetics? Or maybe I am in the dark when it comes to name brands.

Vicki: I think it’s Apple Computer’s entry into the makeup industry (iLipstick, iMascara, iLiner …)

Either that, or the all-knowing Google can tell us:
    MAC cosmetics

Hugh, Thank you for your cosmetic expertise. These blogs have taught me everything from deep spiritual truths to deep facial creams. Sort of like a “Blog-WalMart”.

MAC has a great product line. You can find it in department stores. I recommend the lipstick. It is very creamy and has a good taste. Plus, it lasts a long time. You can also find it at the outlets in Dawsonville. Try the cosmetic store there.

The prices can trip you up ($16 for lipstick) but it does last a long time, if you can stand the same color. I wear “O” if anyone cares to know.

There’s a little plug for them.

I wonder if we should have a blog for the ladies. I’m sure we could talk for pages on shades of lipstick alone. Catherine,(if you are reading this)Your meeting with Kevin may have started something new. Also, Catherine I pray God will bless you with a deeper knowledge of Him as you look over the web-site and maybe even listen to sermons. There is no greater joy or priviledge in life than having a relationship with the One True God. His love and forgiveness cannot be matched or measured.

Kev – you’re never going to live this down.

    Just thought you should know.

    From Dan:

I flew in from Pittsburgh last night and I can confirm (pun intended) to the delay’s in the Northeast. However, I cannot comprehend the conversation that this blog has become. Wow, how quickly we digress. I guess a discussion regarding the grades of pantyhose or lip-liner is right around the corner. Well, Kevin, I always knew you had a flair for fashion hidden deep in your closet. I thought it only related to hair-care products, but I can see you are expanding your borders. I wasn’t planning on doing any blog-talk, but this one drew me into the fray.

P.S. I hear there is a sale on pleated skirts at Belk.

P.S.S. Catherine, we have a lot of fun at Grace Fellowship too. I hope you had a great rest-of-trip.

Kevin, I think you hit the wrong button. This is the blog section. A Women of Grace link is on the front page…

I sense a “WOG Blog” is in the offing… Ladies, I know you’re lurking out there.

Seriously, a “WOG blog” is something I’d like to see. I think it would be neat to have a blog for everything that’s going on in the women’s ministry. The material Krista has come back with from the Amazing Collection series has profited me…

We can joke around about it being a forum for makeup tips and whatnot (as if that would be so heretical or something – shoot, John Lee had a mildly silly thread early on about computers), but there’s a lot of substantial content that’s just waiting to be posted.

Until then, should we change Kevin’s blog page to pink? πŸ˜‰

Not the whole page. But ladies, the next blog will be “pink” just for you. Have at it. You will be able to go back and find it under the “WOG ” category on the left side of my blog page.

Look at that…real-life women’s suffrage on the Grace blogs. You’re on the cutting edge of electronic civil rights, Kevin. But I don’t wanna hear about that dream, okay?

Thanks for the plug, Hugh! I’d also like to see a Women of Grace Blog. For now, we’ll just be thankful for the comment section we got . . . better than nothing, huh? Thanks, Kev.

But, Kevin can keep the “pink” for his page; I think we prefer lavender.

Hey Catherine – its cool you found my blog. Thanks for the enouragement. My flight home on July 15th had a 6 hour flight delay. I don’t like the pattern I am seeing here. My next delay could be 9 hours, ouch. πŸ™‚
