In chapter two, Paul is “coaching-up” Timothy in his leadership in the Church at Ephesus. First, Timothy needed encouragement in his various roles (2:1-7), and now Paul turns to Timothy’s motivation – the “why” that will fuel his actions. Like Timothy, our motivation is key to our maturity. If our motivation is wrong or not aligned, we will struggle in our relationship with Jesus.
