There are thirteen years between Genesis 16 & 17. Abram’s impatience (chapter 16) must have spawned questions that would have haunted him: “Is the Lord done with me?” “What hope do I have that God will give me land and form a people through me after I failed so miserably?” Abram’s mental phantom whispers: “The God of the universe doesn’t provide for people that don’t obey Him!” How the Lord treats Abram at this moment will either bring us terror or give us hope.
