As we go through the Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ video series as a church family our desire is to help each of us to remain focused on Jesus and the fact that we are his disciples and need to continue living as such. This Family Worship Guide is provided to help you discuss how to cherish Jesus more with those in your home.
Worship Through the Word
Before sitting down to do family devotion time, make sure to read the passage and reflect on the content in this section.
Read the Passage:
John 15: 1-25
A few starting thoughts to discuss from this passage:
- Jesus alone is the true vine that produces fruit that glorifies the Father. (14:31-15:8)
- Only those people who abide in Jesus will produce fruit to the glory of God. (15:9-17)
- The world will hate people who abide in Jesus and follow Him. (15:18-25)
A few starting discussion questions:
- How does this passage help you love and cherish Jesus more?
- How does this passage challenge the way you live?
- How does this passage spur you on to abide in Jesus?
A Few helpful notes from the ESV Study Bible:
John 15:4 Abide in me means to continue in a daily, personal relationship with Jesus, characterized by trust, prayer, obedience (see v. 10), and joy.
John 15:7 Two conditions are given for answered prayer: abiding in Jesus, and his words abiding in believers (thus transforming their thinking). Elsewhere Jesus says that believers must ask in his name (i.e., in accord with his character and for his glory; see 14:13–14; 16:23–24). If God’s people truly abide in Jesus (see note on 15:4), they will desire what he desires and will pray according to his words, and those prayers will be pleasing to him.
John 15:16 That you should go and bear fruit implies that the purpose of Christ’s choosing people is not merely that their sins be forgiven and they have eternal life but also that their lives be fruitful and productive in fulfilling God’s purposes.

Worship Through Song
Singing is part of the Christian Faith. Consider:1 Chronicles 16:9, 23; Colossians 3:16; Psalm 100; Psalm 104:31-35.Including singing in our homes is a way to model and teach our kids about this part of the Christian’s Life. Including singing in our homes also can enhance our families’ time as they sing along side other believers in corporate singing on Sundays.
Consider singing one or more of these songs as a family:
Worship Through Prayer
In the life of Jesus, we have a perfect example of the importance of prayer. He demonstrated this through His instruction on how to pray (The Lord’s Prayer) and the many examples we find in the Gospels of Him praying (for example: Matthew 14:23; Mark 14:32-42; Luke 6:12; John 17). Therefore, followers of Jesus should also be people of prayer.
Here is one example of how to pray as a family:
Pray for a different category of persons each night.
For example, praying for:
- Monday: Those who are not followers of Christ.
- Tuesday: Government Leaders
- Wednesday: Church Family and Pastors
- Thursday: Family Members
- Friday: Friends and Neighbors
