For the past few weeks, we’ve been reading Mark’s account of the trial of Jesus and the judgments made against him by the Jewish leaders and by Pilate. Even now, in today’s passage, as he hangs from a Roman cross, he is still being judged. More ominously, while in the midst of the ultimate act of grace and forgiveness, God is making his own judgment by turning his face away.
