Last Sunday we sang a song called “My Worth Is Not In What I Own” (video below.) The song contains some profound truths for us… if we’re paying attention. For example, it reminds us that we have gone from being rebels of God to children of God. We were once blasphemers of God toward others but now we are priests representing God to others. We have gone from being people who have no hope to being filled with hope. In this we who were once unworthy of Jesus, searching for worth from others now find our value in Him. Jesus has rescued us and called us His own. These beautiful truths help us to reorient our affections toward Christ and hold Him as the greatest treasure of our hearts.

Recently, I viewed a video from Sing! – a conference in Northern Ireland in which pastors, musicians, and leaders gathered to encourage and deepen their understanding and commitment to congregational worship. In the video John Piper expounds on the truth of the song, that Jesus ought to be our treasure above everything else. It greatly encouraged me, and I hope you too will have your affections for Jesus stirred. As we go about our weekly activity, and as we gather together on Sunday, let’s sing and remember the infinite worth of Jesus.
