Many of us have had encounters with people whom we would characterize as “Pharisees”. These are people who give their traditions the weight of law and who look down their noses at those who fail to keep these man-made standards. However, how many of us have encountered a person who could be called a “Sadducee”? Today, we’re going to learn about “Round 2” in the Jewish leaders’ attempts to trap Jesus and to discredit him in front of the crowds. And in so doing, we will also learn about modern-day Sadducees.
