The Geography and Timeline of Jesus’ Last Week in Jerusalem

Friday, March 23, 2018 by Pat Dirrim Leave a Comment

The last week of Jesus’ life is the most import week of His life. After living over 30 years as one of His creatures, He was about to submit Himself willingly to the Father’s cup of wrath and the brutal angry hands of His fellow man. This Sunday is the beginning of what is called Holy Week or Passion Week. Jesus spent the entire week moving in and around the city of Jerusalem.  A person’s understanding of Passion Week can be helped by being able to see where in and around the city Jesus went on each day. Jesus’ last steps can be traced (to the best of our ability) in this Google map to get a sense for where each of the monumental events in the last week of His life took place.

One other way a person’s understanding of Passion Week can be helped is through knowing what happened on each day. An excellent graphical timeline of the events of Passion Week serves this purpose. Having a good idea both of what happened when and even where will prove very helpful in meditating on God’s Word which will then help in leading your family in considering what our beautiful and gracious Savior did!

Moving forward this week, beginning two days from now on Palm Sunday, each day there will be a post shedding further light as to what happened on that particular day and how it all ties together in the grand culmination of the Father’s eternal plan of redemption of His people for His glory and for their good. May our affections this week be greatly stirred towards our triune God as we consider His eternal plan and the monumental sacrifice of the Son in accomplishing it!
