Social Media???

Thursday, March 8, 2018 by Pat Dirrim Leave a Comment

FourWORDs Student Ministry has been seeking to equip parents and students over the past few months in regards to the internet and devices in the hands of both teens and adults. Just like a gun or a shovel the device in your hand nor the internet to which you connect through that device is inherently evil. Both can be used for sinful and evil purpose; yet, both can be used for amazingly God-gloriyfing purposes. Having said that, I think that many parents are fairly ignorant as to which apps are on the phones of their kids and what can be done with those apps.

The intent of this post is not for parents to grab those “dangerous phones” and toss ’em into the trash! Rather, I hope to simply awaken parents to the need to actively engage and participate in the the lives of their children…especially in regards to social media and its very significant influence in the life of that young person. To that end, I would encourage a read of this article in regards to the app Musical.ly.

Parents, we are the primary shepherds of our children and we need to be involved in all aspects of their lives! It is never too late to start, so even if you haven’t been diligent in this arena in the past, that is no excuse to not start now. Lovingly go to your child and let them know that you have been remiss in your lack of engagement in their life in this area and that now you intend to involve yourself in it for their good. May the Lord bless our involvement in the lives of our children!
