In anticipating the celestial phenomenon that was the Solar Eclipse, I found myself considering spiritual parallels to this and other natural phenomena. Whether it be the beauty of the symmetry in the movement of cosmic elements that speaks to the precision of God’s creative order, or the need to view through approved eyewear acting like a mediator allowing people to see without fear of damage; the spiritual imagery flowing from the created universe is meant to provide moments of worship if we take the time to go beyond the mere event to consider a deeper understanding.
Isn’t this what David did when He was inspired to write:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. Psalm 19:1-6
The creation communicates aspects of the Creator. Take time to both encourage followers of Jesus that we follow an incredible God and also to engage those who have yet to trust Jesus as their Savior to consider the greatness of the God that authored the solar eclipse! Everyday God is “speaking” of His glory in and through His creation.
