As we venture back into Hebrews (11:32-40) this week, we will see how the faith of everyday people stood strong in the face of overwhelming circumstances as well as personal loss. Everyday people doing incredible things not because they were special in and of themselves but because they chose to trust in (some for a very short time) an all-powerful, all-satisfying God. Maybe you have begun to notice that in recent days we have begun to hear the first notes of a growing chorus of opposition to everyday people expressing faith in God through marketplace decisions? Presently, we are hearing the distant downbeat of a government that is rejecting an individual’s right to express their faith-informed conscientious objection to participating in or supporting of an immoral act. While followers of Jesus in America have experienced persecution at a personal level, we have rarely experienced opposition at an institutional level or governmental level. However, it seems as if those days are now upon us. Do not be dismayed or discouraged at the growing noise of opposition but let it inspire you to live for Jesus and let His peace rule in your heart until His Kingdom is established on this earth.
