Have you ever considered where the motivation of Jesus came from or what inspired Jesus during His life? Said in another way, what was Jesus’ reason for getting up in the morning? Hebrews 12:2 tells us what it was that propelled Jesus during His life:
Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
To Jesus, it was the joy of obeying the Father that made the pulse of everyday a passion-filled mission. It was not mere obedience or simply the carefully crafted execution of the plan; to Jesus, it was the joy that flowed from obeying and executing the plan of redemption that filled His days. Jesus lived a life of trusting His Heavenly Father and that provides for us — His followers, the blueprint of what a faith-filled life looks like. Jesus whole life puts on display the essence of the gospel (a.k.a. “good news”) through every day living. Whether it is Jesus trusting the Father for food in the wilderness or Jesus refusing to be made King by people after feeding the 5000; over and over we see Jesus doing what we could never do fully — trust the Father completely.
As the last week of Jesus unfolds, you will see what it looks like to live by faith as Jesus trusts in the Heavenly Father. It is our hope that God’s Spirit will use this devotional to inspire you to live more fully trusting in Jesus because of what He has done for you.
