Parents, what is your worldview? How do you understand and process all that you experience in this life? What filter helps you weed out the good and bad, right and wrong? What makes up your core beliefs about this life? How do you view and think about the world?
[inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”@forGodsfame” suffix=””]Whether we realize it or not, we are teaching and modeling for our children our own personal worldview.[/inlinetweet] The question I want to ask you today is what kind of worldview are you passing along to your kids?
As Christians it is imperative that we live out and pass onto our kids a Biblical worldview. That is to say we are to pass on to our kids an understanding all of life based on the Bible.
As we go about living each day we have the opportunity to have what I call “life talks” with our kids. These are moments throughout a day where we help give our kids a sense of awe of who God is and show them how all of life centers on Him. Whether we are at the grocery store, the ball park, school events, church, home, in the car, or anywhere there are daily moments that present themselves for us help our kids process the world around them based on the truth God has given us in His Word.
For example, the other day at a store one of my sons made a comment about another child misbehaving in the store. Now I could have just shrugged this comment off or simply agreed with my son. Rather I took this God provided moment to speak to the heart of my son to point out to him from Romans 3:23 that all of us have misbehaved and do not live like God says we ought to. I asked him if he ever misbehaved and turned the conversation toward helping him understand his own stance before a Holy God who rules over all things.
On another occasion one of my sons told me how much he enjoys working with me doing chores and other “Groover-man” work. Here again was an opportunity to help my son process the world through the lenses of God’s Word. We had a moment to speak about how God created us for good works and doing everything unto Him from Ephesians 2:10 and 1 Corinthians 10:31.
There are countless moments each day where we can take time to make sure we are helping our kids understand the world around them with God at the center of it all.
It will help encourage and equip you to give your kids a Biblical worldview. It is from a seminar entitled “Helping Children Develop a Biblical Worldview.”
