Sabbath rest—an end to striving, worry, and fear—that God has prepared for his people is the subject of the next section of the book of Hebrews and today’s reading (Hebrews 3:16-19) serves as an introduction. Last week, we read the author’s warning: “Watch Out” that you don’t turn away from God in sinful unbelief. Although Israel had all of the advantages: the cloud, the fire, the manna, the priests, and Moses, still many rebelled in unbelief and an entire generation failed to enter His rest. There is a similar danger for the people of God today.
