David was anointed by Samuel to be King over Israel when he was only seventeen. For twenty years after that, he was on the run from the tyrannical Saul who sought to kill him. We come to a point in our study today when Saul is dead and David is now coming into his reign as King of Israel. Certainly David has learned patience. David has learned how to lead his men and manage his resources. However, there is a lesson David still has to learn – that while he is an earthly King, there is a Heavenly Lord and He expects to be obeyed, no matter what your status among men is.
