Today, we enter back into the trial scenes found in the Gospel of John. The key to understanding this section of Scripture is to realize that Jesus’ intent through it all is to reveal His trust and love toward the Father so that the world will “know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me” (John 17:23). All of the drama in Peter’s denial, Pilates interrogation, the religious leadership’s “kangaroo court” as well as the clamor of the Jewish people for Jesus’ death are to seen within the framework of Jesus’ being unveiled by the Father as the Christ (John 17:26, John 20:30-31). We hope that our time together will result in an overwhelming sense of gratitude for God’s grace as well as a fresh spirit of repentance in our lives.
