We live in a day of managed reputations and image consultants. It is impossible to really know what someone is like from a distance. While we maybe “friends” with hundreds and maybe even thousands of people on Facebook, we really only know a small amount of people at any given time. While the concept of having a “Facebook-friend” is a recent relational phenomenon, it is by no means the first of its kind. Jesus points out that their will be many “friends” of His who will believe, yet only those who continue in His teaching are really His true “friends” (John 8:30-31; John 15:13-15). Or, said another way, when someone sees Jesus as He is then it will be unmistakable as to who He is – the Messiah. In our passage today, we will see four perspectives on Jesus and why only one is to be considered unmistakable.
