We don’t often speak of consecration. In Old Testament times consecration involved bathing and putting on clean clothes in preparation for the task at hand. Baptism rituals in the early church emulated this practice. For the next few weeks, we will study a prayer of consecration that God the Son prays to God the Father in preparation for the task at hand. Jesus has work to do and he is going to finish it. In later weeks we’ll study how Jesus dedicates his disciples and how he dedicates his church. But today, we’re going to study the section of this prayer where Jesus dedicates HIMSELF to the work God the Father has for him.
