GraceTALK, April 2014

Sunday, April 6, 2014 by Pat Dirrim, Larry Farlow and Ken Rutherford

At GF we value asking questions to better understand how to live life in a God-centered, Christ exalting way. Let’s face it, life is tough and trying to find your way on your own just makes things even more difficult. But where can you go to find biblical answers to life issues?  We believe that church should be THAT place. So, we have a “graceTALK” every quarter in which some of our pastors answers questions people have submitted.  On Sunday, we will also be featuring follow up questions via open mic or text message so you can jump in as well.  To get you thinking, here are the questions for this week’s graceTALK:

Q1 (1:32).  Is belief in a 6 literal 24hr day interpretation of Gen 1 a requirement for orthodoxy or a disputable matter? As a Christian who also has a passion for science I find AinG very unscientific with its required presupposition for this interpretation. Grudem appears very balanced on the issue and Reasons.org gives a very different solidly scientific Christian view. I don’t believe our faith or God’s Majesty, as displayed in Creation, is threatened by how old science currently says the universe appears to be. I find quite the opposite to be true.

Q2 (12:18). Is it possible that the Meaning and Mode of Baptism is a disputable issue? Having spent time in a PCA church, I know families that by all their fruits appear to be solid Christians and also have a deep heart felt belief in infant baptism as a covenant sign. While for me and my house have chosen Believers Baptism, I respect their belief and don’t feel the need to break fellowship with them.

Q3 (28:11). I have a friend who believes God gives her dreams and impressions.  Although she doesn’t make it seem like it is as authoritative as Scripture and she never has said that, “I must” obey, but I just get weirded out by he attributing things to God in this way.  Is this more my issue or should I say something.  If I need to say something what might that be?
