There are expressions that are common in a courtroom. Expressions like, “guilty,” “without excuse,” “law,” “without cause,” “testimony” (i.e. someone’s “word”), are all intended to present reasons for or against an individual’s innocence. Interestingly, each of these terms appear in the passage we will consider this morning. The text has a courtroom feel to it, a Divine rendering of the Jewish people for rejecting Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah of God. Although there were many motivations for the Jews to reject Jesus, there was only one reason that Jesus gives for the guilt of the Jews. Today we will consider what this “one reason” was and gain hope of our standing with Father God.
