At GF we value asking questions to better understand how to live life in a God-centered, Christ exalting way. Let’s face it, life is tough and trying to find your way on your own just makes things even more difficult. But where can you go to find biblical answers to life issues? We believe that church should be THAT place. So, we have a “graceTALK” every quarter in which some of our pastors answers questions people have submitted. On Sunday, we will also be featuring follow up questions via open mic or text message so you can jump in as well. To get you thinking, here are the questions for this week’s graceTALK:
Q1 (2:19). Should I not sing in the service if my heart does not truly reflect what we are singing about? In other words, there are times I am not joyful and yet I am singing about being full of joy. Is this wrong and am I quenching the Holy Spirit by just going through the motions?
Q2 (13:14). I attended a church while growing up that would not allow women to be deacons. I understand that this church does allow women as deacons or “directors.” Why is this and what is the basis for that distinctive? Also, should I say something to my parents in this regard as they still attend the church I grew up in? If this turns out to be a clear Biblical issue, am I obligated to let them know they are wrong?
Q3 (24:18). Are you qualified to be a pastor of Grace Fellowship if you are a divorced man?
Q3 (31:49). If I am reading my Bible right, Moses and David both had multiple wives and were never rebuked or told it was sinful. Solomon was never rebuked for multiple wives but for having non-Israelite wives that would lead his heart astray. In I Timothy 3:2 it says that an “overseer” must be the “husband of one wife.” Therefore, it makes sense that there were some in the church that had more than one wife but that the elders could not. So, does this mean it is OK to have multiple wives but just not in our country due to the “law of the land” but not God’s Law?
