We continue to immerse ourselves in the Gospel according to John. Today, we are excited to consider a passage that is in all the other Gospels (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40). Surely this indicates that the content of this section of Scripture is vital for us to examine, but why? Maybe because this is Jesus’ “Triumphal Entry?” I don’t think so because in less than 5 days Jesus will be rejected and murdered – not very “Triumphal.” Maybe it is included in all four Gospels because it has to do with Passover, a great Jewish festival? Nope. There are three Passovers during the life of Christ and they are not given the prominent place this particular Passover is given. So why is THIS event included in all the Gospel records and what makes this event significant for us today? We will consider this question and the implications for how we both see Jesus and live our lives.
