Have you noticed that we all have designations that we derive our identity from? We have names assigned to us by our parents. We have ranks of grade and age assigned to move us through school. We pursue formal associations in clubs and leagues and not so formal associations in following certain sports teams. We have jobs with titles that correspond with actions that we are responsible to perform. For many of us our identity has moved from being who we are intrinsically to what we do, our performance. However, as disciples, our identity is aligned within our relationship with Christ, and not in names or designations or subjective (and often negative) life experiences. In order to clarify the identity of a disciple of Jesus Christ, we will take four weeks to reflect of particular terms and expressions that the Bible uses that you may have never considered but offer you a fresh understanding in answering the question: Who are you?
