How is it that two people can view the same thing and yet see that same item or issue in a completely different way? The key principle is: who you are determines way you see and what you see will determine what you do. In other words, because the Jews hoped that their right-ness with God was based on obeying Sabbath rules they saw the actions of everyone else in this same way. And given their entrenched position on they have attained righteousness, anyone who questions their hope in Sabbath-keeping will be treated as a threat.
