As the season of politics heats up, Christians need to sharpen their skills to discern between vote-hungry rhetoric and Biblical truth. Which brings me to an issue that will be aimed at Christians in how we view taxes and the poor: Should Christians affirm the redistribution of wealth? The logic I have heard goes something like this: Jesus taught that we should “love our neighbor as ourself.” Wouldn’t you want someone to give to you if they had more than you? Would this not increase our witness? The only reason we have poor in this Country is because the Church isn’t being the Church… and so on and so on.
Time Challies wrote a helpful piece that frames the issues and addresses these types of questions in, The Redistribution of Wealth.
