It was during a “mission trip” that those who were with John the Baptist heard that Jesus was in Southern Israel baptizing huge crowds of Jews. Those who were apart of John’s ministry were alarmed that Jesus would erode John’s influence and maybe even threaten the very work of God that John had been doing. After all, John was “the voice” sent from God, but it had been John who baptized Jesus into His ministry in the first place! However, John doesn’t seem bothered at all. John actually accepts growing less popular. How could John be so comfortable with losing influence? What made John so willing to fade away? Was he just tired? Frustrated? No. John could become less because Jesus was all that was needed.
