Has Modern Media Ruined Worship Music?

Monday, February 27, 2012 by Kevin Schultz 1 Comment

How has the proliferation of media impacted church music for the good and the bad? Do scarfs and skinny jeans help you contextualize your music to your congregation? Why is there a resurgence in hymns in North American churches?

These questions and more are addressed in these roundtable discussion videos from the Gospel Coalition posted by our neighbors over at worship.com in their post, “MP3, the Bono Effect, and Youth Culture in Worship“. These videos raise a good number of questions and answers in regard to the form and function of music in church as part of our gathered worship of Jesus.

I remember having these conversations in college about how MTV was destroying geographically based cultures. Similar to the idea of “Our church is in the cool, hip area of Montgomery, AL.” (Sorry Alabama friends, but we all know there is no such place. :^P )
