The Power of the Gospel

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 by Larry Farlow Leave a Comment

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. – Romans 1:16

God’s power is on display throughout the scriptures. We’re in awe as we see Him speak the world into existence, part the Red Sea, cause the sun to stand still and raise the dead.

Yet, we sometimes forget that when we see someone go from being a lover of sin and self to being a lover of God that we are seeing something just as amazing. Two things I read this week reminded me how powerful is the God we serve.

In one, Greg Gilbert of 9Marks shares the testimony of a man in his church who was in bondage to homosexuality and is now finding freedom in Christ. In the other Fox News writer Joshua Rhett Miller reports on David Berkowitz – The Son of Sam and his refusal to seek parole, being content to serve out his days in prison serving Christ.

Let us never underestimate the power of the gospel and the willingness of God to save all who call upon Christ.
