Today, we continue our summer study of the book of Ruth. Last week we said that a wise reading of the book of Ruth demands that we have a theocentric mindset – seeing God working through the details. At first glance, the book of Ruth seems to just be a picture of particular people experiencing life during the period of the Judges. However, if you read wisely, you can see signposts of God working throughout the book. For example, the author weaves into the storyline the work of God in sending a famine into the land (1:1, 6). Then, at the end of the book, the author tells us that the LORD gave Ruth the ability to conceive after her marriage to Boaz (4:13). Prior to this Ruth could not have a child even though she had been married some ten years. These are but two examples that the author impresses on the reader that God, although invisible to human view, is working through all the details contained in this story. As we study together, we hope that you will be inspired to worship and enjoy our great God.
