Today, we conclude The Long Night series. This Psalm contains the conclusion of David’s quest to cope with life that seems overwhelming. David arrives at a simple and yet incredible profound conclusion for all of Israel: Hope in the LORD. Notice that David does not arrive at a particular answer that will solve his uneasiness. David is not given a secret “word” from the LORD that results in living above the anxieties of living. No. David arrives at the same conclusion that you and I have access to today.
I can hope in God because of who God is regardless of how difficult of a situation I am in. Period. David affirms for us that having joy is not dependent on what we face in life; having joy is about who we know God to be. This distinction makes all the difference and is the greatest need for a person who is traveling through a long night. MP3 download.
