“Do you guys dunk people at your church?” That was the question posed by a person I was talking to about our church. Without even realizing it this individual was capturing an ecclesiastical distinctive of our church. I never did find out why this was on the top of his mind when it came to church. Maybe he had attended church as a child and saw a baptism. Maybe he attended a baptismal service of someone in his family. While I don’t know why he asked I do know that he realized it was something some chuches do while others churches do not.
So, if I were to ask you, “Do you guys dunk at your church?” What would you say? And, more importantly, why would you say it? This morning we will consider how God intends to nurture His church through Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
