Audio Books for Under $10 (the Bible too!)

Friday, June 13, 2008 by Hugh Williams 5 Comments

ChristianAudio.com is having a $9.49 sale on lots of downloadable books from June 13-22.

The Listener's Bible, NIV (Max McLean) One notable inclusion in that list is the The Listener’s Bible NIV, narrated by Max McLean. If you don’t have a Bible you can listen to, here’s a great chance to pick one up at almost 90% off. This is no cheesy production — I have McLean’s ESV reading and it’s fantastic. I highly recommend McLean’s work.

Some others:

The Cross of Christ (John Stott) The Holiness of God (R. C. Sproul) Desiring God (John Piper)Don't Waste Your Life (John Piper) Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God (J. I. Packer)The Confessions of Augustine Twelve Ordinary Men (John MacArthur) Classics of the Christian Faith (Max McLean) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (C. S. Lewis) Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life (Donald S. Whitney)

I just pulled these ten out from a quick scan of some of the titles that are available — if you see any that look especially interesting, please call them out in the comments!

About Hugh Williams

Hugh Williams is one of the Connections teachers at Grace Fellowship. You may notice him playing bass with the music team on Sunday mornings, too, when he works hard on smiling while reading music and keeping rhythm at the same time. A native of the New York City area, Hugh and his wife, Krista, have lived in the Atlanta area since 1997.

Wow! Thanks for posting this Hugh. I already downloaded the free Pilgrim’s Progress the other day and now the entire Bible for $9.49! Can’t beat it.

Thanks for sharing this, Hugh. Really cool news.

To save others the trouble of looking, though, I’ll point out that the ESV version is not offered on that site (glad to hear you liked it, Hugh). It can, of course, be purchased at listenersbible.com.

If I can go a little off topic, folks can hear that ESV version online for free via the ESV site. Here’s an example of Gen:1. Note the “listen” link offered: http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=Genesis+1

This is indeed Max McLean’s reading. It’s not downloadable, nor podcasted (that I’ve found), but better than nothing. (The same audio is also at biblegateway.com.)

This is a crazy question, I’m sure. But if you were a woman (I’m not saying women don’t read these books-because I’m sure they do! 🙂 ) But in my case we are going to choose just one and then the Narnia Audio book. Which do you think I would enjoy the most? I read a good bit of desiring God and enjoyed it, but never finished it. Maybe on tape I may have the opportunity to. I did not read any of the other books though. Some of them may be a bit too deep for me at this easily distracted season of life. Being a mom (Big smile of course!!!).
Maybe it’s easier to say which would you get Krista if you were to get her one? Other mom’s may be wondering the same thing. 🙂
    Thanks!
