Four Realities that are Rooted in the Resurrection of Jesus

Friday, March 28, 2008 by Dan Miller Leave a Comment

On Sunday (March 23.08) we outlined Luke 24:1-10 and thought through how incredible the very idea of a person being resurrected was and also how impossible it is for a resurrection to happen if it were not for the power of God.

As we moved toward a conclusion I noted four outcomes that find there basis in the power of the resurrection.

  • The Bible is true
  • God keeps His Word
  • “Death” has been defeated
  • Anyone can enjoy God now and forever
  • Let’s address reality #1, “The Bible is true.”
For centuries the Bible has spoken of a coming Messiah. In Acts 13:26-39, Paul cites three Old Testament passages, Ps. 2:7, Isa. 55:3, and Ps. 16:10. In each of these passages the resurrection is central. In his exegesis Paul makes the following conclusion starting in v.37:

…but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. 38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything.

Point: If Jesus would not have resurrected from the grave we would not only be obligated to be skeptical concerning the Bible, but we would be obligated as people who seek truth to actually oppose the Bible as a truthful source of information. More than that, the ability to forgive sins rides on the central truth that Jesus did in fact rise from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus provides us with the vivid hope that He does indeed have the authority necessary to truly forgive all of the sins of a person who would repent and place their trust in Christ alone. Therefore, because the resurrection happened, it is evidence that affirms that the Bible is true.
