We start our Spring Bible Study classes this Sunday (February 17th). We are offering four classes. Each class will have one teacher taking the lead and a second teacher in an assisting or back-up role.
The Seven Wonders of Ephesians 1 & 2
Tim Bell and Hugh Williams will lead this class. Here is Tim’s description of what to expect…
The 7 Wonders of Ephesians 1-2 is an interesting study created for a small group Bible study setting. The study idea was gleaned from Acts 19 which tells the story of a riot that was started by silversmiths who were mad at Paul for preaching the Gospel and hurting their business. They were making and selling silver idols of the Goddess Diana whose temple was in Ephesus – that temple was one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
The 7 Wonders of Ephesians 1-2 are listed below. For each wonder the Ephesian text (and other supporting texts) will be examined and we’ll explore what the Bible has to say about each theme.
1. Eph 1:5 He Predestined us for Adoption through Jesus Christ (focus on Adoption)
2. Eph 1:7 The Riches of His Grace
3. Eph 1:14 The Guarantee of our Inheritance
4. Eph 1:19 The Immeasurable Greatness of His Power
5. Eph 2:18 The Gift of God
6. Eph 2:13 The Blood of Christ
7. Eph 2:20 Christ the Cornerstone
Twelve Ordinary Men
Matt Hodge and Larry Farlow will lead this study. Here is Matt’s description of what to expect…
God doesn’t always use the people who we would expect him to use. History has shown that God chooses people from all walks of life and all types of personalities to be vessels for his grace. In this study we will look at the 12 ordinary men that Jesus chose to invest his life and ministry in while he walked this earth. This study intends to help us grow in our knowledge of the disciples, as well as to be encouraged by seeing what he accomplishes through common men. The main material for the class will come from the Bible and MacArthur’s Twelve Ordinary Men. Reading MacArthur’s book will not be required for the class discussion, but we will not be able to cover all of the material so attendees are encouraged to read it for a greater understanding of the topic.
Home Builders: I & II Peter
Greg Glaze and Charlie Arehart will lead this study. Here is Greg’s description of what to expect…
Welcome to Homebuilders – Grace Fellowship’s mainly “young” married ministry. Our desire is to glorify God by evangelizing, discipling, and edifying married couples so they will live under the daily control of the Holy Spirit, raise children to serve the Lord and be a Light to our families and communities. The Bible Study is primarily designed for married couples in their 20s, 30s and early 40s with young children, however anyone interested in the study topic is welcome. Our study will be I and II Peter. As a leader and spokesperson for Christ’s apostles, Peter provides clear messages that serve as truths for the Believer. Christ reminds us, through Peter’s teachings that we are to take courage in times of trouble and persecution.
The Doctrine of God (Part 2)
Ken Rutherford and Tom Holbrook will lead this study. Here is Ken’s description of what to expect…
This quarter, we will continue our study of the Doctrine of God. In these lessons we will focus on three major areas:
A. God in Three Persons: The Trinity–How can God be three persons, yet one God?
B. Creation–why, how, and when did God create the universe?
C. God’s Providence–If God controls all things, how can our actions have real meaning? What are the decrees of God?
This will be a lecture-style class with limited discussion. Not recommended for new Christians but if you’re open for a challenge, come on in.
Ken’s class will continue to be recorded and posted on the Web. So, if you are a podcast listener, this might be a good chance to catch that one on the podcast and attend one of the smaller classes where you can get to know some new people in a more interactive setting. To find out more about any of the classes, you can email the teacher. Email addresses follow the pattern of firstname.lastname@forGodsFame.org.
