Freedom

Sunday, October 28, 2007 by Dan Miller 1 Comment

Trusting in Jesus is meant to result in your freedom.  Unfortunately, this is not the case for many Christians.  Why is this?  Why do some followers of Christ feel more burdened down than set free?  In this series you will learn that a key to achieving spiritual freedom is found when we begin to value the right thing because that will enable us to live the right way – free, enjoying the grace and goodness of God because of Jesus!

Today’s teaching will flow from Galatians 5:1-6.

Excellent message this Sunday. I am a “white board” kind of guy, and I especially appreciated the way that Justification and Sanctification were explained and contrasted in such a way that anyone can understand it.

I encounter the Catholic view on many occasions as I work with several people of the Catholic persuasion. I especially appreciated the reference to Hebrews 10:14 which helps drive home the point that the difference between Sanctification and Justificatio is not a protestant thing, it is a Biblical thing.

Hebrews 10:14: “because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”

In addition to this, I can easily identify the peaks and valleys in my own life along the path of Sanctification. It is very easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you have lost your salvation. This study helps drive home the point that I am powerless to effect or lose my salvation, but rather, with Jesus as the focal point, I should strive to be Holy through His power for His glory, not for my sake or my salvation.

This message has created many talking points for my family as each of my kids had plenty of questions following the service, and it gave me a reason to bring the topic up with my Catholic co-worker.
