A couple of weeks ago Hugh mentioned listening to a good chapel sermon by D.A. Carson on evil and suffering. Over the course of a week or two, that talk came up again and again.
Well, I finally got a chance to listen to it, and I can see why. This is one of the finest talks on the nature of God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility I’ve ever heard. Carson speaks with his inimitable combination of authority and even-handedness, sternness and compassion, scholarly precision and pastoral concern.
Download part 1 and part 2. He won’t waste a minute of the time you spend listening.
Hugh Williams says
I’ll spoil the ending a little and point out the title: “Being Prepared for Suffering and Evil.”
The point is, you have to think through this stuff before you find yourself in the grip of suffering and evil. When you’re in the midst of it, it’s too late to start asking (and answering) the big questions.
I’ll also note that part 1 is really good. Part 2 is even better.

The page resource has moved… Can you reknew the link?
Eric Farr says
It looks like that talk (from March of 2005) has rolled off the site. I’ve copy a copy of the MP3s if you are interested, though.
Dan says
Yea, I would love to hear it.
Hugh Williams says
I added them to a file sharing site.

David Ennis says
Just finished Part One … wow, great stuff.
Is there a quantifiable level that you get to as a teacher where people start to refer to you by your initials and last name?
I like his little “freak out” method of emphasis. :^)
Eric Farr says
Yeah, must be.

Hi, Eric. I realize this is a really old thread, but would you mind if I posted the links to these two lectures on my blog and gave you a link back? Thanks.
Eric Farr says
Barry, I don’t see any problem with that.
