When we pray for others like the Apostle Paul did (see Nov.27), the Holy Spirit will strengthen them in order that Christ will “dwell” (“settle down” or “be at home”) through “faith.” In other words, the power of the Spirit strengthens us to live by faith which in turn creates an atmosphere in which Christ can work freely and unhindered. It is the nature of the Spirit to lead by influencing or exhibiting power in the lives of people (see Luke 4:1,14; Acts 10:38; Acts 1:8) and the Spirit always is centered on Christ for the glory of God.
Paul cares for the followers of Christ at Ephesus and recognizes that while they may have many temporary “wants” they only have spiritual “needs.” Paul takes these people right to God in a request for the Spirit to work, in an effort to further the control of Christ in their lives. Isn’t this the core idea of praying for others?
If you want to pray effectively for someone (i.e. missionary, teacher, family member, co-worker, etc.), let the Holy Spirit’s leading in the model of Paul and the power of our Great God encourage you that He will answer your prayer!
