I was seeking out something different to listen to yesterday and found my way through the catacombs of my CDs to Nichole Nordeman’s debut CD Wide Eyed from 1998. I can’t believe its almost seven year’s old. Anyway…
Nichole is a great talent. Insightful lyrics: sometimes moving, sometimes hard to listen to (read: honest). The title of this blog is a link to some mp3s from each song on the first record. It’s a real moody body of work that I still enjoy to this day. I am glad I took the time to move all those CDs out of dig it out. So check out the tunes from the link.
As for the queen of metaphor title, the last track of the CD is entitled River God. The lyrics liken God to a River, sometimes slow and sometimes wild, but constantly running over a stone, the writer. Her closing sentiment, to me, is simple yet so true. What a beautiful turn of phrase to express the process of santicification.
And when the sunset comes
my prayer would be just this one
that you might pick me up
and notice that I am
just a little smoother in your hand
